Connecting Generations Through Stories

Here is an outside perspective from a writer who sat in on the SBYF workshop in Detroit.

The postcards below are from Nelson and Olene, who have been married for over 60 years.  Their stories will go into our archive together.  I had the honor of talking with them and helping them to get their stories down onto paper (bad eyesight).  Olene shared a memory of visiting her grandparent's farm in Tennessee in the early 1900s ("He had a horse and buggy...I'd never seen one before..."), and also a story about what her father said to Henry Ford when they met in his factory during the Depression.  Nelson flew two missions on D-Day, and reflected on his experiences and how they have stayed with him.  "The English Channel was so clogged with ships it looked like you could walk from ship to ship all the way across..."
